EXCELLENT low angle , always work your angles & diagonals , try greyscaling it and whack up the contrast , because you could use that road line paint & the smoke to good effect . Google some of the 60's masters of the 60's "New Approach photography " like Colin T Gifford , Bill Watson ( Monkey Snaps ) and have a look at their B&W photography .

I am puzzled. Since you are from Stafford I would have thought you would be aware the location is actually Moss Pit in the Borough of Stafford - Acton Gate starts 500m to the south, in South Staffordshire District and a name sign on the other side of the road bridge marks the northern edge of the hamlet. The footbridge is at Acton Gate. Someone who is well known but does not know the area made a mistake a few years ago and, unfortunately, the error keeps being replicated. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=392585&y=319750&z=3&sv=392585,319750&st=\ 4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf See also http://www.trainspots.co.uk/locpage.php?ts_number=404 With the best of intentions, Gary S. Good use of low dramatic angles and wide angle zoom to get into the "heart " of the shot and possibly get more atmosphere than the sheep like clowns standing at the ends of platforms with the telephotos , that's lazy boring photography; sometime s. Have you thought of doing grey scale conversions and putting layers in in PS , shape , form , texture , doesn't have to be colour for everything . Only criticism i've with a lot of railway photographers is boring over-exposed skies , Ok British Weather isn't the best but we can cheat a bit these days .

try a slight crop out of the sky , good idea to keep that bloke in , bit of atmosphere , use the stoats in the pictures instead of that get out of the way approach some people have

Excellent framing and low wide angle shot . Improve your skies though , Digital is a bit weak on blues and skies , try a contrasty grey scale for impact .

not sharp , if the trains are too fast , try a different approach ; use the rails on the other line , use a tele to pick out that detail and blur the tram , front of the tram is oversharpened .

You were standing in a dangerous position here well inside the boundary. I am fully aware that you are on a public foot crossing but both the driver of the train you photographed and a driver of any up train which pass this point at high speed must have had heart failure. You are getting photographers a bad name by such foolish behaviour.

Theres a lady whos sure All that glitters is gold And shes buying a stairway to heaven. When she gets there she knows If the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for. Ooh, ooh, and shes buying a stairway to heaven. Theres a sign on the wall But she wants to be sure cause you know sometimes words have two meanings. In a tree by the brook Theres a songbird who sings, Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven. Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it makes me wonder. Theres a feeling I get When I look to the west, And my spirit is crying for leaving. In my thoughts I have seen Rings of smoke through the trees, And the voices of those who standing looking. Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it really makes me wonder. And its whispered that soon If we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason. And a new day will dawn For those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter. If theres a bustle in your hedgerow Dont be alarmed now, Its just a spring clean for the may queen. Yes, there are two paths you can go by But in the long run Theres still time to change the road youre on. And it makes me wonder. Your head is humming and it wont go In case you dont know, The pipers calling you to join him, Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, And did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind. And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul. There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How evrything still turns to gold. And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last. When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll. And shes buying a stairway to heaven.

that's a better idea , whilst all those clowns stand behind the barrier like Japanese Tourists & expect their zoom lenses to take the picture - you use the roof and the famous Lime St clock. Watch your colour balance as the Whizzo is supposed to be maroon and the coaches , bottle green & cream .

Good to see the service back again and so many people on the platform. Lets hope they don't just come to look, we need them to travel on the train. I travelled on the 8.02 departure through to Euston this morning with an Advanced Booking and Railcard for £11.20 return so come on folks theres no excuse not to use the service. Unfortunately on the 12.46 return we were all kicked off at Northampton - no Conductor relief, but it did mean I travelled on a Birmingham local to Rugby to await the next Stone train and I was able to have a chat with Chris Green there.

Thanks for your comment Brad, I think your shot of the RED beast is far better than mine. The problem I have is that I tend to panic a bit when the train is moving and my camera has problems taking more than 1 photo in quick succession, in full resolution. Don't get me wrong it is a great camera, just not quite as good as a proper DSLR.

A case of so close so far, as you were in my area, and the clock shos me as taking a similar sot (but lower down) of 31190 at Waterloo a mear 12 secs after you took yours, though one I didn't use is just a mear 2secs off yours! Shame didn't sot you as would have said hello. I'd only bothered to go out for the GBRF operated but then Advenza liveried 66844! Nevermind the 31! Nice photos had a look and some really nice stuff recently as always on your website so do keep them coming! PS: How'd your girlfriend cope with the first spotting experiance??? :P Ta MW (http://37517slocopics.fotoblog.co.uk)
